SIP or session initiation protocol opens up a host of opportunities for innovation. One of the growing applications for SIP in VOIP is affordable distance learning. Because SIP is easy to develop and modify, educational institutions can deploy distance learning initiatives using cheap hardware systems.
Voice and video sessions can be initiated in conference or broadcast mode to allow students to view multimedia content on demand. Using SIP presence to announce available subjects or on-going sessions, an instructor can announce topics dynamically through a graphical management console. Students can then enter their ID's and input a password or prepaid account number to join any desired session.
